How to boil an egg

Even the most experienced cook can sometimes wonder exactly how to boil an egg. I know I did! So what better approach than to ask all my Facebook friends how they do it – always a good learning experience. Well there was quite a variation in the answers, so I had to try a few out and the recipe here was the one that worked the best. Believe me I have had a lot of boiled egg disasters in my life.

Boiled eggs are one of life’s simplest pleasures. Cracking the top off a softly boiled egg and dipping some buttery toast in it is a great start to any weekend. In fact when my boy was little he had them every day before school and is now a brick-built rugby player, obviously as a direct result…

Ingredients
  • 2 very fresh large organic free-range eggs
  • water
Instructions
Place the eggs in a small saucepan with cold water.

Bring the water to the boil (with the eggs in the saucepan).

When the water starts to boil set a timer for 2 minutes and 40 seconds for the eggs to boil.

Remove the perfectly soft-boiled eggs and enjoy with some sourdough toast and real butter.
