Lemon *wine*

This was invented in the quest for something zingy to replace the zip of a glass of white wine. The trick is to sip, not guzzle, make it easier by cramming the glass with ice and lemon. One glass with a meal at weekends only. Just like wine, right?

Ingredients
  • 1 can of San Pellegrino limonata (that’s lemonade to you and me)
  • 1-2 big gorgeous bright lemons
  • several large lumps of ice
  • little bit of sparkling
  • water mint leaves if you have any about, non-essential
Instructions
It’s important that you make this look special so that you don’t just knock it back in one but linger over it and appreciate its lemoniness. So:

Get two nice tumblers or large wine glasses and fill them with ice and a couple of lemon slices or wedges.

Crack open the lemonade and pour half the can into each glass.

Top up with a small amount of sparkling water.

Squeeze all the juice of half a big lemon into each – the key to this drink is the lemon, it has to be sharp, not sweet.

Add a sprig of mint if you have any, or even squeeze some lime in as well and add a slice of lime to the rim of the glass.

Sip slowwwwwly with your meal.

Feel awesome the next day, with no hangover or fuzzy head.

...and then I decided I was a lemon for a couple of weeks.
